Legends of oriental dance
>> In this section we will focus on the historic stars of oriental dance starting with the ubiquitous Badia Masabni, Samia Gamal, Naïma Akef, Nagua Fouad, Soheir Zaki and the supreme Tahia Carioca. The modern divas like Farida Fahmi, Fifi Abdou, Dina, Lucy and Suzy won't be left out. Of course there is a big difference between Farida Fahmi and , Fifi Abdu. But they both have one thing in common: their passion for egyptian dance.
The number one dancer for the last decade or so has been Fifi Abdu, now in her sixties. Madame Abdou did some big movie productions that didn't turned out to be box-offices. Fifiís dancing days look to be well and truly numbered, despite plastic surgery on her several trips to the States. Her act included some funny magic tricks and props like a nargileh, sometimes vulgar movements and... even rapping. The use of chewing gum while dancing was at times used to attract commotion.
Most of the bellydance legends equally featured in motion pictures so you might find information on those pages as well.
The stories and never published intervieuws of Samia Gamal and so on will feature some rare pictures... as you might expect on this website.
Another new topic are the Turkish oriental belly dancers. Their distinct dance style deserves to be mentioned.
The first one featured is Princess Banu.
